Released in 1986, it reached number one on the Billboard album chart. In Japan, it topped the Oricon foreign music album chart for 11 consecutive weeks.

"Top Gun" was number one at the US box office, and Tom Cruise became a top star. Kenny Loggins' "Top Gun Theme" and Jerry Lee Lewis' "Great Balls Of Fire" are included. Berlin's "Top Gun Love Theme" reached number one on the singles chart and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.
