To celebrate the 85th anniversary of BLUE NOTE, an indie record store exclusive 180g blue vinyl will be released! This album, recorded by pianist Horace Silver in the 10th year of his recording career, is considered a treasure in a catalogue that boasts numerous hard bop masterpieces. Two tracks from an October 1963 session with Blue Mitchell, Junior Cook, Gene Taylor and Roy Brooks capture the evolution of his quintet. A year later, Silver returned to Val Gelder Studio with a new band of Carmell Jones, Joe Henderson, Teddy Smith and Roger Humphreys to perform four tracks, including his signature song, "Song for My Father." Personnel: Horace Silver (p) Carmell Jones, Blue Mitchell (tp) Joe Henderson, Junior Cook (ts) Teddy Smith, Gene Taylor (b) |
