The original of the extremely rare modern soul classic "Patience" by UK soul/funk outlaws The Baker Brothers has been reissued on 7-inch!
The B-side is a cover of the classic Sly and the Family Stone song "If You Want Me To Stay," which is being released as a 7-inch single for the first time!
The Baker Brothers are one of the UK's most important contemporary jazz-funk bands, and are immensely popular in Japan. They released their album "Time To Testify" in 2011, at the height of their popularity, and this 7-inch "Patience" is a delightful reissue. The original was a modern soul masterpiece by the US band Rock, who made a big splash when it was reissued by Numero. This song, which has been spun by many diggers, has been arranged in the Baker Brothers' style, with Chris Pedley's crisp bass driving the groove of the song, making it a body-shaking finish. In addition, on the B-side, the first 7-inch cut of "If You Want Me To Stay," which was included in the smash-hit album "Transition Transmission." The original is a famous song by the well-known Sly and the Family Stone. This version is also faithful to the original, but the arrangement brings the memorable horn phrases to the forefront. The vocals by Hamish Stewart, formerly of the Average White Band, create a deep sense of melancholy in this great cover.
