He had actually planned to retire after this film, but the huge success made him decide to continue.

Released in 1989, this work, which featured Asian elements at the forefront (a rarity at the time), was a huge hit in Asian countries including Japan, winning various awards in each country.

Dick Lee is a Singaporean artist. His first song, "Rasa Sayang," is a rap-style song that uses a lot of Singlish and satirizes Singaporean culture, and clearly expresses his belief that Singlish (Chinese, English with a Malay accent) is one of the few cultures in the country. The song was banned by the government, but was so popular that it was eventually lifted.
