A legendary live recording by funky groove master Les DeMar, whose powerful drum breaks and intense groove have been sampled by countless artists and DJs and have captivated jazz funk listeners and rare groove enthusiasts alike!
This recording of the ecstatic eight-piece combo performing at Concerts by the Sea in Redondo Beach, California in August 1978 is revived in the original format released in the 1970s!
The fusion-like "Quetzal" (A1) immediately raised the excitement after an opening MC and cheers. The set then continued with the soulful "Ambidextrous" (A2), the mid-tempo funk number "Island Winds" (A3), featuring percussion, drums, bass, electric piano, and horns, all gradually blending together. Highlights of the show included the fast-paced jazz funk "San Quentin Quail" (B1) and "Sambandrea Swing" (B3). Of course, the vocal-featuring "Music Is The Message" (A4) and "Freedom Jazz Dance" (B2) were also fantastic!
